Canine Unit

Mission

The Salt River Police Department Canine Unit’s primary mission is to provide trained police canines to assist in the prevention and detection of illicit drugs, locating persons sought by the police, search and rescue operations and Community outreach programs.

Canine Unit Training

The Canine Unit Officers are all AZ POST certified law enforcement officers. The Canine Unit Officers have also completed training to obtain their Special Law Enforcement Commission certification through the Bureau of Indian Affairs. In addition, the Canine Unit Officers continue to maintain ongoing specialized training in the areas of canine apprehension, tracking, search and rescue and illicit drug interdiction techniques.
