Mission Statement
To empower O’odham and Piipaash youth to become grounded, confident leaders who honor their cultural identity while gaining the financial knowledge, career skills, and real-world experiences needed to thrive within the Salt River Community and beyond.
Vision Statement
The Young River People’s Council envisions O’odham and Piipaash youth who are deeply rooted in their traditions, languages, and values, while confidently navigating the broader world. Through culturally grounded leadership development, financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and real-world opportunities, we prepare young people to manage their resources wisely, build meaningful careers, and become leaders who strengthen the Salt River Community for generations.

- Can be a non-enrolled member, but must live within SRPMIC boundaries
- Can be 12, but will have to be voted in by YRPC

Jizelle Juan, President of the Young River People’s Council is a dedicated leader and passionate advocate for her community. Elected as the President of the Young River People’s Council in January 2025, she brings a strong commitment to empowering youth and fostering cultural pride. A senior at Mountain View High School, Jizelle excels academically while also pursuing career training as a Medical Assistant at the East Valley Institute of Technology (EVIT). She proudly served as Jr. Miss Salt River for 2023-2024, using her platform to uplift and inspire others.Deeply connected to her culture, Jizelle enjoys traditional shell etching, dancing, and volunteering at community events. Her leadership has helped strengthen community engagement, and she remains dedicated to advocating for cultural preservation and Indigenous rights. With a vision for a future where traditions thrive, Jizelle continues to inspire others to take pride in their heritage and create positive change.

Cruz Lasiloo is the Vice President of the Young River People’s Council and is a freshman at Saguaro High School who excels in both academics and extracurricular activities. A talented percussionist in the school band, he also stands out in his Japanese language class and looks forward to traveling to Japan with his classmates this summer. As Vice President, Cruz has demonstrated exceptional leadership and confidence, continuously strengthening his public speaking and advocacy skills. He values time with family and community, enjoys reading, and takes pride in learning traditional songs. Passionate about leadership and personal growth, Cruz is committed to making a positive impact in his community.

Tizoc Lopez, the Clerical Secretary, is a freshman at Saguaro High School, excelling in academics and extracurriculars. He has a passion for language learning, especially in his Japanese class, where he is preparing for an exciting trip to Japan with his classmates. A talented basketball player, Tizoc has contributed to multiple championship victories both in and outside of school. As the Clerical Secretary of the Young River People’s Council, he plays an active role in community initiatives, from promoting youth civic engagement through the Get Out the Vote campaign to strengthening the Council’s social media presence. Outside of his leadership and academic pursuits, Tizoc enjoys playing basketball, spending time with family, and gaming with friends—always bringing energy and laughter to those around him. With a vision for fostering unity, he is committed to creating positive recreational opportunities and social events that bring people together.

Myson Galindo, Correspondent Secretary, is a dedicated sophomore at Saguaro High School and proudly serves as the Correspondent Secretary of the Young River People’s Council. Through his leadership, he actively contributes to community initiatives such as the Get Out the Vote campaign and cultural preservation projects. Passionate about making a difference, Myson enjoys spending time with family, exploring new places, driving, and giving back through volunteer work. He is committed to strengthening intergenerational connections within the community, fostering cultural sharing, and building a more united future.

Amelia Lasiloo, Treasurer of the Young River People’s Council, is an accomplished 8th-grade student at Mohave Middle School. She excels in both academics and extracurricular activities, demonstrating dedication and enthusiasm in all she does. Over the past year, Amelia has grown tremendously in her role as Treasurer, showcasing strong leadership and commitment to her community. In her free time, she enjoys connecting with family, engaging in community activities, listening to music, and participating in traditional dance. Passionate about leadership development, Amelia strives to be a positive role model and inspire those around her.
