The SRPMIC Injury Prevention Program was established to provide evidence-based interventions that target unintentional injury concern areas. Our goal is to raise the health status and decrease injuries for the Community through evidence-based intervention programming, data-driven evaluation, transparent communication with Community members, collaboration with SRPMIC programs, and the promotion of spiritually, mentally, and emotionally and physically healthy lifestyles.

Core Prevention Programs
Elder Fall Prevention
We provide specialized programming to keep our elders strong and mobile:
- Yoga & Tai-Chi: Classes specifically designed for fall prevention. On-going, year-round. Classes offered at Skeg Himdag Ki (formerly Way of Life Center)
- Comprehensive Training: 10-week courses meeting twice per week focusing on balance, strength, and flexibility.
- Assessments: Pre- and post-fall risk assessments to track progress.
- Eligibility: Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community Members ages 55 years and older, or anyone who has fall concerns.


Opioid Drug Prevention
Safeguard your home and loved ones with our protection and education initiatives:
- Lock Box Distribution: Secure your medications with provided lock boxes.
- Education: Learn how to safeguard medication, proper disposal, and prevent misuse.
- Professional Connection: Direct links to professionals for those needing further support.
- Eligibility:
- SRPMIC Community Members with opioid medication prescription or referral from provider.
- Must have permission for installation if living in Government-owned housing.
- Must live within the boundaries of SRPMIC
Child Passenger Safety
Award-Winning Care: Proud home of the 2022 National CPS Team of the Year. Our team includes 37 Certified Child Passenger technicians and 2 Certified Instructors.
- Car Seat Distribution: Child Car Seats available with education and installation.
- Support Services: We offer group presentations, individual appointments, and car seat check events.
- Eligibility: Available with required education to Community members, SRPMIC employees, and anyone who has an immediate safety transportation for children concern.

Beyond our core focus areas, we offer specialized equipment and assessments to protect every stage of life:

| Safe Sleep for Baby | Pack n’ Play distribution to ensure infants have a safe sleeping environment. Eligibility: Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community Members with children under 1 year old or expecting children. |
| Traumatic Brain Injury | Helmet distribution for various activities to prevent head injuries. Eligibility: Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community Members |
| Home Fall Risk Assessments | Personal and Home Fall Risk Assessments to identify hazards within the home environment. |
